Who Are our Nominators and How Do They Find the Solutions?

EARTHSHOT PRIZE

Each year, the global search for Winners of The Earthshot Prize begins with nominations.

To find our potential Winners, we have established a truly diverse and experienced group of over 300 official Nominators from every region of the world who seek out the most inspiring, inclusive, and impactful solutions to our five Earthshots, and submit them as nominations.

Who are the Nominators?

Our Nominators range from non-profit organisations, expert individuals, academic institutions, and privately-owned businesses, and they have collective experience in environmental research, policy, advocacy, business, innovation, grassroots and Indigenous leadership, and activism. All of our Nominators are selected for their leadership in repairing our planet, as well as their networks with individuals, teams, and organisations from all corners of the world, who are leading on solutions to the pressing environmental challenges that we face today.

How do they source nominations?

Nominators seek out innovations and projects to nominate by making use of their environmental networks, though proactive searches, or by encouraging innovators with solutions to put their proposals to them directly. Below is a list of current Official Nominators who are accepting public proposals and you can view them, their head-office location and access their websites via our Nominations page.

Why use Nominators?

By ensuring that our nominators represent all geographies, environmental topics and sectors of society, diversity is embedded into our nominations process. In 2021 we received nominations from over 86 countries and our Finalists included a schoolgirl, a grassroots non-profit, tech-driven start-ups, global data monitoring systems, a city and a country. This is thanks to the diversity of our Nominators, who search for nominations from all walks of life. This year we have built on this to expand our Nominator pool even further, to ensure we cover all corners of the globe.

Using a cohort of expert Nominators also means that The Earthshot Prize receives highly impactful nominations, because we tap into a global network of expertise and experience. This enables us to seek out the projects and initiatives that are already having a positive impact and have huge potential to scale this impact around the world through growth or replication. By submitting a nomination to The Earthshot Prize, our Nominators are advocating for the people on the ground driving change all over the world, who deserve recognition and support for the incredible work they do to repair our planet.
